New Year's Eve

It is that time. The time that a year ends and a new year begins. It is time for many to make resolutions. A New Year's resolution is a tradition in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice, such as opening doors for people beginning from New Year's Day. I have not decided on my resolutions yet, or even if I will set resolutions. I always have things that I can improve, I am not perfect. In the past, I have made resolutions and at times, conveniently forgot what I said or, honestly forgot what I said. Either way as I get slowly get older, I think that some of the old resolutions would have been good to accomplish. Now it is better to have daily resolutions to accomplish and to keep track. The more important thing is to improve myself, even if it is a small improvement. It is an improvement. As you consider your resolutions, consider what you can improve to be a better you. I will begin the new year with ...

A Pallbearer’s View

We see funerals on the roads we drive on every so often. A funeral is the observances held for a dead person usually before burial or cremation. The procession, a long line of cars and truck, including the hears e and limousines, are part of the funeral.   I was taught to stop my vehicle and turn off the radio when a precession comes my way. Yesterday, I was part of a funeral, I was a pallbearer. I had not been a pallbearer for a while. This was different view of the funeral. I saw the friends pay their last respects. Then came the family, saying goodbye one last time before the casket was closed. The funeral director said. “take as much time as you need.” The family wept together and held each other as they exited the building to their vehicles. Then the directors took the drape off the casket and put it inside, they closed the casket and then tightened a bolt that sealed the casket. Under their direction, we lifted the casket, walked it to the hearse and slid it inside. ...

A Wonderful Christmas Time

Many stories can be told at Christmas time. Hallmark, Lifetime, Up, ION, Freeform, depending on your cable provider. These stories have happy endings before some sort of conflict as we get to the ending. Some good stories and some great stories along with some good endings and some great endings. That is television. I like television movies. When it comes to family and Christmas the stories can be great and have great endings and sometimes the stories are not so great and do not have happy endings. Last night my little family had a great story. We visited my Sister’s for a Pajama Party on Christmas eve. There were games like the one where you write down as many words about Christmas next to the letters from the alphabet. I had two minutes to write down words, I came up with ten, thanks to thinking of the song, twelve days of Christmas. I did not win, but it was fun. Next was some game where you unwrap Saran wrap that is in the shape of a ball. It is filled with goodies. My daug...

Christmas Shopping, Last Minute…

December 23 rd . Went to the mall for Christmas shopping today. It is two days to Christmas, so not last minute, I’d like to think. After spending 10 minutes on the expressway, the traffic slowed to a crawl nearing the cxit. This took about 15 minutes. Then to find parking another 15 minutes. Finally, an open space in all the traffic. Did not matter where I was parking, I knew I was going to walk around the mall store by store. Now to get to the stores. My phone counts steps. So far at 1500. Made a stop at Home Depot. Need to mow the lawn after shopping, depending on energy level. First stop Macy’s, first floor found perfume for wife. Nothing for daughter. Second floor nothing interesting. Third floor men’s shop. Cologne, wife will get that for me, hopefully the one that comes with the free watch. Leaving Macy’s at 2300 steps. Walking through the mall, people all over looking for gifts like I am. One lady was wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, did not know if I missed the cont...

Tax Reform Christmas Gift?

The house and senate passed this historic tax reform, just in time for Christmas. Nice to have a gift from the Government.   Now on the Republican side the selling points focus on the middle class. For people who make less than $25,000 will see an average tax cut of $60. Those who earn between $49,000 and $86,000 will get about $900. Those in the top 1 percent of income — earning more than $733,000 — will receive around $51,000 in tax savings, the policy center said. Many Democrats focus on how Corporations benefit from this tax reform. The tax package provides a deep cut in the corporate rate, from 35 percent to 21 percent. On the individual side, about 80 percent of American households will get tax cuts next year, while about 5 percent will pay more, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. Now the tax breaks for people are not permanent, they are for corporations. By the way, over the next 10 years, it is estimated that this legislation will add $1.4 ...

Alabama Votes?

Alabama’s special election for the vacated United States Senate seat had favorable results for the Democratic party. Many people across the country were surprised and happy with the results of this election. I am happy that Roy Moore did not win this election. I do not agree with his values and morals and the part of the Republican party that he represents. I am Doug Jones won. I am surprised and not so surprised with the margin of victory. Something close to 40 % of registered voters participated in this election. 671,151 people in Alabama voted for Jones. He won by 20,715 votes, 1.5% more than Roy Moore, a very close race. 650,436 votes went to Moore. I am concerned that the margin of victory was not larger. Over 650,000 Alabama voters agree with Roy Moore’s values and his behavior. This was a small victory for Democratic party and the State of Alabama. What worries me is that just over 48% of the voters that participated in this past Tuesday’s election voted the morals that Roy ...
