It was just a comment, right?

Trump made the "shithole" comment in an Oval Office meeting after lawmakers suggested restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and several African nations. According to Trump these are the shithole countries. The comment is inappropriate. He needs to apologize for the remark as soon as possible, wait, it is already too late to apologize. What is frightening to me is that the white house did not apologize in their statement regarding the comment. Some media members also came to the defense of Trump’s inappropriate comment. Fox News Hosts Tucker Carlson and Jesse Watters defended Trump’s comments. Carlson stated, “Why can’t he say that?” While, Watters argued that the "forgotten men and women" who make up the president's base would approve of the comment. This comment alarms me. It is one thing to defend the comment, but to say that a group of people would also approve is worse. The sad part about Watters remarks are they are true. It is ...

New Year's Eve

It is that time. The time that a year ends and a new year begins. It is time for many to make resolutions. A New Year's resolution is a tradition in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice, such as opening doors for people beginning from New Year's Day. I have not decided on my resolutions yet, or even if I will set resolutions. I always have things that I can improve, I am not perfect. In the past, I have made resolutions and at times, conveniently forgot what I said or, honestly forgot what I said. Either way as I get slowly get older, I think that some of the old resolutions would have been good to accomplish. Now it is better to have daily resolutions to accomplish and to keep track. The more important thing is to improve myself, even if it is a small improvement. It is an improvement. As you consider your resolutions, consider what you can improve to be a better you. I will begin the new year with ...

It is Rigged!!! or is it?

It is rigged!!! The election is rigged! This is the new argument that Donald Trump is presenting to his supporters. Elections are shaped by political ads and media every year. This is how politics work and have worked in the United States and other countries. This Presidential Election is not different yet it is different. Political ads are all over the media and the News media is placing the usual biases in their reporting depend on the Network. Social media is different; the internet is different. How messages are delivered to supporters is different. The main difference that I have noticed, how supporters are taking in the news, media and the messages sent by their candidates. The system is rigged or biased, like usual. The key is how each candidate is using the system to get out their message. Check the sources of your messages this election year and go vote.

Offensive...

Donald Trump has offended many people, including, Women, Minorities and Disabled people to name a few. He has had good numbers since he began his run for President. He somehow received forgiveness from those that support his Candidacy for these actions. Over the last month new revelations have come into the news. It appears that these news revelations have done little to the Candidate Trump. These revelations have hurt many people for a while and continue to hurt people. The question, that I have is how much more will we let this man get away with?…Is this who we have become?
ci·vil·i·ty səˈvilÉ™dÄ“/ noun noun: civility formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech. When did we lose civility?  This Presidential Election has brought out the ugliness of us as human beings. In politics and other endeavors, we use to be civil to each other. We would agree to disagree, but the argument was always civil. That is how our leaders handled things and we followed that example.  Now things are different. We still follow the examples set from our leaders. The examples have changed. They are influenced by the number of clicks on a news story. That is what gets reported. Someone that is civil is not the top news story, like it was in the past.  I think we need to demand more from media. Do not forget, we are the consumers. If we don't click on a story, they might have to try something else. Maybe getting back to civility...

American Sniper: Hero, Patriot or just big money for Hollywood?

The movie American Sniper is #1 at the box office once again. It aims to portray the effect war has on individuals and families. The reviews and audience reaction are good. What is not good is the debate over where the main character is a patriot or a psychotic killer. Some in Hollywood have express the dislike for the film, like Michael Moore and Seth Rogen, saying that Chris Kyle was just a coward and a murderer. Others have countered this argument with Kyle begin a war hero, Sarah Palin and all at Fox News. The director, Clint Eastwood, says he wanted to present how war is difficult it is for soldiers and families. The film is based on a true story, the film does not aim to be a true story of Chris Kyle. If that was the case, Chris Kyle’s book tour and his encounter with former Minnesota Governor, Jesse Ventura would have been presented. Actually, that encounter was redacted from the book because it did not happen. In all of debate, the movie studio continues to make money ...

The NFL Culture or a Professional Workplace Environment

We all have the right to a safe and humane work environment. Especially in the professional world. Is the NFL different? Are the players in the NFL professionals? These are some issues that are not being talked about at this time. Is the NFL Culture so different from other professional cultures? http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9913324/sources-nflpa-eyes-miami-dolphins-richie-incognito-jonathan-martin-case This incident between Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin is the discussion and debate in the world of sports at this moment. On one side, Incognito has been riding Martin about his toughness all season. This includes phone calls and text messages that are very personal, racist, and threatening. On one side, Jonathan Martin left the team for his own personal reasons because of Martin's actions. Martin talked to his coach and has not returned to the team. Is Richie Incognito a bully or a team leader? Is Jonathan Martin soft and going against team rules or the NFL culture...
I went shopping at Wal-Mart and another grocery store. They have decorated for Christmas and show very little trace if any of Thanksgiving. I remember when this was an important holiday to give thanks, an important part of the History of the United States. Now it feels like it is the day to get ready to go shopping on Black Friday. Some stores are now opening on Thursday evening. Thanksgiving has been hi-jacked by corporate America. I have no issue with people make money, just not on this day. Of course, it would be good if United States Citizens would honor this day as it was so long ago. So much for the Great American Holiday, I just hope I can get a good deal on a television.

Graduation

In the last month many things have come up. The most important for the from last week for about a month are graduations. This is the time of year that young people and sometimes not so young people begin a new chapter in their lives. They have reached a new educational milestone be it a High School Diploma, an Associates Degree, a Certification for a vocation, a Bachelor's Degree, a Master's Degree or a Doctoral Degree. Many individuals are meeting family educational standards and some are creating new family educational standards. Years ago I read somewhere that children usually exceed one level above their parents. For me, my parents each completed high school and did not go further. All I needed was an Associates Degree. I finish my Bachelor's Degree in the 80s. Completed my Master's in 2000. and finally, my PhD in 2008. I far exceeded the family educational standards. This time of year families are celebrating these educational achievements. In the celebration,...
