Super Bowl

It is Super Bowl Sunday. An unofficial end to the Holiday Season for some. It is the time that we see the newest commercials for television. It is a time to get a great deal on an HDTV is you need one. It is the time for putting the New Year’s diet on hold for a day.  It is also the time for a football game, oh yeah, that is what today is all about or use to be. It is now the day of the Puppy Bowl and the Kitten Bowl. It is a day for Hollywood and Advertising. It is a day for Beer Companies and Chicken Wings, oh and Pizza.  By the way, there still is a football game to be play by men who have dreamed of this game for most of their lives. The 120 or so men on both teams are in the middle of the best dream. They are playing in the Super Bowl and the winner will be the Champions of the NFL. World Champions! Enjoy the game, be safe and don’t forget, one of these men get to say “I’m going to Disney World!” tonight.

Technology and College Students

Today I was helping a colleague understand the results of the last class she gave her class of upper division college students. She kept telling me that she was not teaching well, she felt she did not do enough to prepare the class for the exam. We looked at the results of the exam and compared them to the scores on the first exam of the semester. The scores are supposed to drop off from the first exam, because of the difficulty of the course. It is a research methods course that students need to complete to graduate with their Bachelor’s degree. Through the magic of blackboard, we did item analysis, statistics that give the percentage of correct answers and the percentage of each of the wrong answers. This was a multiple choice exam. The statistics essentially say that the student did not student enough. Some would get the correct answer, but many would choose all of the other wrong answers. Some of the questions were designed to be easy, but still they would get the wrong answer...

KFC Cartel?

So there is a demand for the Colonel's recipe. It's not in the United States. It is in Gaza. Sounding like the procedure to get a bowl of soup from the Soup Nazi, the process has some rules. It will cost you some money also. The fast food delights that are available to us in the United States are unlike that of other countries. In Gaza, there are few if any fast food choices. In this area of the world, what happens to mom and pop restaurants if Fast Food moves in? What are the implications for a culture? There are already implications and new restaurants are not in the country yet. If you want it and can afford it, it will get to you.  Sounds like something that happens in the United States, except in the US it is usually not fast food, but some other drug or drug like action. This value of instant gratification is usually a bad thing in the US. What would the addition of this value to Gaza do to it's culture? That is already being seen in this one example. Some may ca...
